Sage Butternut Squash (Baby Food Recipe)
I love making baby food for my 9 month old daughter Amelia. She loves food and loves everything I make for her. I want her to be adventurous with food and I believe that it starts early. I want her to be one of those kids that likes ordering off the adult menu when we go out to eat.
So here is my version of Butternut squash ravioli with Sage Brown butter for my baby. I used all organic products.
What you need:
1 medium sized butternut squash (peeled and cut into 1" cubes)
1 leek stalk (chopped)
2 cloves of garlic (crushed with the back of a knife)
1/2 cup of water
1 tsp of dry sage
Pepper
Place butternut squash, leeks and garlic into a steamer for 15-20 minutes until the butternut squash is soft.
Once cooked, place squash, leeks, garlic along with water, sage and a dash of pepper into a blender. Blend on high to smooth or to the consistency you like.
I serve this with small star shaped pasta (well done) with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
Yum yum!
A little note: this smells so good when you steam it...so good in fact that when my husband came home from work he thought it was our dinner.

Chocolate Bark
Chocolate Bark Recipe
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
Unsalted soda cracker (Premium Plus) - small box will do
1 package of milk chocolate chips (300 g)
1 package of SKOR toffee bits
Line crackers side by side on a cookie sheet. There will be a gap between the end of the last row of crackers and the edge of the cookie sheet so break some crackers to fill the gap.
In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar and stir until it boils and becomes thick.
Pour it over the crackers and spread it out with a fork (make sure all the crackers are covered) You will have some butter and brown sugar left over! - But you can put as little or as much as you want!
Place in oven at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes
When you remove it from the oven, the crackers might overlap one another, so level them out with a fork so that they are side by side again.
Sprinkle with chocolate chips (the whole package)
Sprinkle with the wee peanut butter cups (1/4 of the package)
The chocolate chips will start to melt. Spread them with a fork, covering all the crackers.
Sprinkle with Skor bits (however much you want) I used a little more than 1/4 of the package.
Refrigerate for 1- 1/2 hours. Or I put in the freezer for 30 minutes and they were ready.
Break apart and ENJOY!!!
For a fun XMas twist...try a little crushed candy cane on it! Yum!
Moroccan Stew (Baby Food: 9 month old)
Moroccan Baby Stew
My 9 month old daughter loved this. I love to make new things for her and introduce her to new flavours and textures. I would prefer it if my kid never eats off the kids menu so I believe it starts early.
What you need:
1 Carrot
1 Celery Stalk
1 Potato
1/4 cup Red Lentils
1 cup of water
1 tsp of olive oil
Cumin
Turmeric
Salt and Pepper
What you do:
Finely chop all the veggies. I used a slap chop (it is a great product for making baby food).
In a sauce pan, place oil and veggies and saute till veggies are slightly soft, about 5 minutes. Add lentils and stir for one minute. Add water and a dash of cumin and tumeric. Add salt and pepper to your liking. Bring to boil and lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes until veggies are soft.
Great for freezing!

WHY?
This was once a question on an exam my father had in university. Go figure the answer is why not! WHY NOT is right... So simple yet gets you thinking. Today, my why is why blogging? Why start another blog about being a mom and the trials and tribulations that I and every new mom goes through. Well I love to write (and haven't for awhile) and perhaps if my daughter is the only person who reads this one day...then it was worth it.
So I am starting this blog to document my story and put it out there to those that are interested in reading about it. I want to share my joys and challenges of being a mom, reviews on products and services, my experiences of a city girl moving to the country, my struggle with being a stay at home mom or going back to work, my love of capturing moments on film, my adventures in cooking and well anything that is on my mind that day. So here goes...
